Can I select a transformer by MVA alone?

No. Voltage ratio, frequency, winding connections, impedance and insulation requirements must also match the electrical system. Submit the single-line diagram and specification; flag any values still awaiting engineering approval.

Which tap changer and cooling arrangement do I need?

State the required voltage adjustment range, whether adjustment is needed under load, and the loading and cooling requirements. The tap-changer type and cooling arrangement must be confirmed for the proposed design. Do not assume either is included as standard.

Which standards and approvals apply?

Specify the required standard number and edition, destination-country rules, utility requirements and any mandatory certification. An oil-immersed substation power transformer must be reviewed against the exact project scope; product standards, efficiency rules, certification and utility approval are separate checks.

What documents should I request?
